PWC 2006 - Reunion

Standa Hlavinka & Dagmar Dvorska

 Digifly Flyer 2

Tandem with Petra Krausova is landing

"What November!" Peter Vrabec claims and takes his clothes off in order to throw himself to the sea. In contrast to the last race which took place in Slovenia two months ago, the fifth competition of this year's PWC starts by a windy training day. It divided competitors into two groups. One group decided to lie by the sea all day long and not fly at all while the second one waited on the hill and didn't fly too. But the weather forecast for tomorrow looks much better and we can expect that a task above the west part of the island would be declared.

After the landing on the island

Sunday 05.11.06
First half-empty busses set off for the hill after eight already. Perhaps the rest of the racing field counts on their own cars because driving up the hill is fairly easy here and it takes just half an hour.

 Briefing

 Window is open

Thanks to the great thermal activity the start window is open before eleven o'clock and 47 kilometers long task spans five turning points in total. Speed of strong lifts reaches 6 m/s around noon.

Later on, despite rather subdue thermal activity because of the wet air when cloudbases develope in a height of 1200 meters, 35 pilots reach the goal finally. The fastest of them is the winner of today's task Deniz Cortella from France who needed 94 minutes to fly the entire route. About one minut later arrived Christian Maurer form Switzerland and Robert Bernat from Germany. Unfortunately, Czech champion Karel Vrbensky didn's succeeded in reaching the goal. He was short of a height during the final gliding and thus he landed in the middle of a crocodile farm what is concurrently the last news of him we have received by now.
