Sunday 24.04.05
After Saturday's free flying at a height of 2800 meters almost half of inhabitants of Sopot came to a local community centre to open the competition ceremonially and priesthoods blessed it. Meanwhile a rest of local people offered an accommodation in their houses in a prices about 4 Euro per one night and a great firework above the taking off area finished the evening.

"And where does the registration take place?" ask Tomas Brauner and David Ohlidal in front of abandoned tables in the morning. They arrived to Sopot a little bit later and what is more, they didn't notice the local time shift one hour ahead. Surprisingly, the temperature isn't below a freezing point this morning though the sky is as clear as yesterday. Even if the cableway starts its turning before nine o'clock the number of competitors in the down station decreases very slowly. It takes about 20 minutes to overcome the vertical distance of 850 meters. Although there are double-seats, pilot takes one seat and his glider takes the second one. But going up at a height of 1370 meters above sea level costs only 2 Euro and that's not bad.

 Above the goal line

The winner of the task Mathias Roten

 David Ohlidal is landing

A long waiting for the task to be declared is varied by breakneck figures of Mathias Roten above the taking off area at noon. Later this will prove to be an excelent training for today's task. The discipline is claimed only at 1.20 p.m. and it spans four turning points. The goal line will be set on the landing zone beside the down cableway station. The total distance of the race is 65.2km and competitors will have to fly round the taking off area three times. The start window is open at 1.50 p.m. and all of 124 pilots fly away during half an hour.

"Gin! Good glider!" cries the winner of today's task Mathias Roten from Switzerland in the goal with enthusiasm and speaks highly of a strong afternoon thermal up to a height of 2700 meters and a very light wind. Flying the whole distance took him 2 hours and 18 minutes. Japanese Ogisawa Kaonu arrives five minutes later as the second and Thomas Brandlehner lands in the goal two minutes after that. Altogether 67 pilots landed successfully in the goal today even if the slowest ones needed more than three hours to reach it. Thomas Brauner belonged to them too.
