Tuesday 22.3.06
European first spring day has brought beautiful and sunny weather to Castelo since early morning but the air humidity still remains too high and the temperature approaches 40°C. It's not so awful at the taking off area in a height of 950 meters where the temperature drops to 30°C. Storm clouds start to develop above surrounding hills very fast and that's why one hour long starting window is open 15 minutes before noon already. The task line spans two turning points and its length is 57.7km. A thermal activity proves to be much stronger than yesterday and from the total number of 88 pilots, who overflew the minimum distance, 70 pilots almost reach the goal. But a relatively low ridge close to the goal forced lots of them to land and just 50 of them reach the goal finally.
