Wednesday 11.05.05
"When a man gets married he stops to see - particularly the money," experienced Vlado Tranzik explains early morning and the sun shines above Stranik today again. The wind blows from the north for change and local showers begin to form quickly all around. The organizers decide to wait at briefing at 11 o'clock and the rain comes at the same time. Besides, it's hailing twenty minutes later.

"We can't fly under these conditions but we can compete," some wise man advices and 31.6km long task with three turning points Lutise, Lysica and Budatin is declared at the briefing at 1 p.m. The goal will be placed on the saddle under Stranik hill today.

The north wind calms down gradually and thanks to a thermal activity pilots can unpack their canopies at the southwest taking off area again. But everybody can clearly see a continuous wall of dark clouds on the northwest side at the moment of a start window opening at five past two. Glooms appeare on pilots faces and nobody rushes to take off naturally. Except for the brave pilot Vlado Tranzik (who stopped to see probably) and Tomas Lednik, whose white canopy shines under a black cloudbase at a height of 1700 meters above sea level a couple of minutes later. Several brave stormy flyers join him after a while.

I'll definitely reach the goal today, do believe me

Pack quickly, the storm wind is coming

"I'll do my best to walk a spitting distance only," claims somebody with the intention of taking off but a strong storm wind is turning to the west side now. One of landing pilots is blown away from the saddle down to Teplicka village, the task is canceled at 2.25 p.m. and Tomas Lednik together with the others land voluntarily in the strong west wind down in the valley.

It's fought off for today and the whole racing field runs away in a rain towards the hangar to stuff himself with pepper sausages and to drink much beer. As usual the heavy hailstorm follows the rain fifteen minutes later and the overall ranking remains without any change after this day.

"I've landed in Janosikovo near Rimavska Sobota over Filakovo, it is 136km straight line but it will be over 150," finally the message comes from five hours missing Peter Vrabec in the evening and a statewide search operation can be closed. The storm spoiled his plan to fly home to Hajik, a part of Zilina town, and he arrived at a height of 2600m roughly to the Magyar border line at last. Happy organizers open a bottle of champagne wine on the top of Stranik immediately and are looking forward to tomorrow's video projection. He has recorded the whole his flight.
